Leadership

Elizabeth “Liz” Hope Star is a visionary leader and community advocate dedicated to health, education, and social justice. As President and Founder of The HopeStar Foundation, she drives cross-sector collaboration among philanthropy, nonprofits, and government to transform and drive investment in early childhood health and development, with a focused emphasis on prenatal through age three.
Liz co-founded Invest Early NC (the North Carolina Early Childhood Funders Collaborative) to strategically direct funding toward lasting, statewide early childhood initiatives. A seasoned board leader, she serves on the Board of Visitors of the Bolch Judicial Institute of Law at Duke Law School, a member of the Early Childhood Funders Collaborative, and is an active member of NC Network of Grantmakers and the Women’s Impact Fund.
Liz also serves as Board Chair of Nurture North Carolina, which is a statewide collaborative dedicated to improving maternal and infant health. We do this by addressing systemic drivers of maternal morbidity and mortality, and reducing health disparities that current, siloed programs cannot solve alone. The HopeStar Foundation, in partnership with stakeholders and philanthropy, has invested in this collective impact model for long-term sustainability ensuring no mother or child is left behind.
