Barrett Gunter, MD, is a native of Gainesville, GA. He attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill for his undergraduate degree. Following medical school at Emory University School of Medicine and an Ob/Gyn residency at Vanderbilt University Medical Center, he joined Durham Women’s Clinic (DWC) in Durham, NC, where he participated in the comprehensive healthcare of women for 38 years.
Throughout his professional career, Dr. Gunter has worked alongside certified nurse midwives and strongly endorses team-based collaborative care. He is also a passionate advocate for CenteringPregnancy, a group prenatal care model. Surrounded by like-minded colleagues, he continues to find creative and innovative ways to deliver exceptional care.
Dr. Gunter has been involved in the leadership of UWH of The Carolinas since 2014, serving as president for the first five years and continuing to serve on the Clinical Governance Board in his role as medical director. His commitment to improving the delivery of women’s healthcare has been steady for over three decades.
