Leadership


Michelle Ries, MPH, is president and CEO of the North Carolina Institute of Medicine. She has been part of the NCIOM team for over a decade, serving the Institute and the state in various roles, most recently as associate director.
During her tenure, Ms. Ries has provided strategic leadership to the Institute’s work in offering advisory support to state stakeholders on integral health policy issues. She has led and supported task forces on critical topics impacting North Carolinians, including improving serious illness care, healthcare analytics, dementia care, and child and family wellbeing. She also led much of NCIOM’s work during the first two years of the COVID-19 pandemic and spearheaded the Institute’s pioneering Legislative Health Policy Fellows program, which equips state lawmakers and their staff with the data and resources needed to make effective decisions about the health of the state.
Ms. Ries earned her MPH from Columbia University’s Mailman School of Public Health and is a 2019 graduate of Leadership North Carolina.
